February 2010

So I had a couple of interviews this month. I didn't get the job at UAC which truthfully I didn't expect to get. It's more of a PA role and that's not my cup of tea. I did however go for an interview at Royal Melbourne Hospital, which would be an awesome job, fingers crossed.
I didn't get a lot of riding in this month. Did start running tho, and so far only running 1 km but it's a start. Daisy is in getting a triple put on - that means there will be 3 chain rings at the front instead of 2. I had a compact double on her but what a waste of time and money that choice was. Actually not really a choice. I was told that because she only has 650 wheels I wouldn't need a triple. Lies, all lies.
Well I suppose a compact double is fine for getting around Werribee, but once I go near any kind of hill. Hopeless. The gears aren't any good for going up - thus I don't get to do any spinning. And trying to get some speed coming down - forget it. Yes sure, everyone runs out of gears coming down, but at about 45 km per hour. I don't think so.

So much riding so much fun. With nearly 1,000 km under my belt I'm feeling pretty good. Unfortunately, I won't be spending 2 weeks up at Bright, but I'm happy to take the 1 week I have. I unfortunately haven't successfully completed many Audax rides due to rear wheel punctures. But now I have a new rear tyre which is strong enough to survive the rubbish on the side of our roads.
I successfully finished the Cheryl's Choice 100 km without incident....

December 2009

So where did that month go? Once again this month has gone off to a flying start. Firstly was the Audax Sydney to Melbourne 1200 run by the wonderful Chris Rogers. I unfortunately (or even fortunately) didn't ride but helped Kathryn and David run the final checkpoint in Melbourne - Albert Park Sailing Club to be more precise. We combined the end of the ride with the Christmas breakup which was a blast. Hard, hard work, but a success.
Yesterday I rode 100 km with Stephen and Petroula, and although a great ride with great scenery, I really struggled the last 20 km. But alas I will go out for a small ride this afternoon, just to ensure all is well.
A big happy birthday to my mate, KD.

November 2009

Phew what a month. I picked up my brand new custom made titanium bike. I broke my brand new bike, I had it fixed and I rode the greatest distance ever today! A whole 105 km! and this is just the start of it. From now on it's all about aiming for the 200 km in February.
Petroula and myself have recently returned from a 7 day cycling tour, which was absolutely amazing. Some tough climbs - Towonga Gap and Falls Creek, but the downhill on the otherside made it all worthwhile - plus some.
We met some brilliant people - like Nellie at Falls Creek, and Leanne and Greg at Bright.

September 2009

Oops once again I find myself quite slack and not writing!
I've began work at the Uniting Aged Care in Geelong which is really nice. A great place to work and with lovely people.
I'm back into riding and have purchased a new bike. It is being built in America by Seven. Custom made, titanium! How cool.
I'm not going to rave on about the bike but will put a picture or 2 up when the bike arrives. Which should be October 23rd. But I won't be going up to Sydney to be fitted to it until Friday the 13th of November! An omen? We shall wait and see.
So the story behind the new bike - Steve, Petroula and myself drove up to Sydney (850 km) back in July to see a man named Steve Hogg. We decided to get fitted to our bikes, and so why not see the best? Steve turned out to be a lovely down to earth man who we enjoyed spending time with. He had some mad Americans over but that just added to the fun. To cut a long story short. My beautiful Trek turned out to be too big for me - even though it was only a small frame. So he suggested I go for a custom made frame. I'll be able to ride faster, better, pain free (to an extent), and so a steel bike it was going to be. Until the Aussie dollar went up and for a mere $1,000 more I could get a titanium frame from the States. Why not?
